DESCRIPTION:
Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co., Winsted, Conn., "Old Mr. Boston" novelty advertising clock, 8 day, time only, spring driven balance wheel movement in a solid wood case shaped and painted to look like a bottle of whisky, silvered dial and steel hands.
CONDITION:
This model of clock as shown in Ly's Gilbert reference has a metal case with raised letters and trim in black. This example was well-crafted from solid wood to look like a whiskey bottle. The white and black paint do appear to have some age. The silver paint on the cap is more recent and was not applied with care. Gilbert timepiece movement and silvered dial. The words "8 day" on the dial have been strengthened.
